2024 DCJS Public Safety Symposium
September 17-20, 2024
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is bringing together criminal justice professionals from around New York State and beyond for the 2024 Public Safety Symposium. This Symposium will be held in Albany, NY, from September 17 to 20, 2024, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
The goal of the symposium is to convene police, prosecutors, community supervision, crime analysts, researchers, community members and criminal justice practitioners from around the state and country. Over the course of four days attendees will learn about innovative public safety initiatives, evidence-based violence reduction practices, and other contemporary criminal justice topics.
The event is open to anyone involved in public safety efforts in their community and will showcase over 100 presentations on a wide variety of important public safety topics, including:

• Shared Public Safety Initiatives
• Community and Youth Engagement
• Crime Analysis
• Procedural Justice/Criminal Justice Reform

Kassy Alia Ray, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Serve and Connect
Together, We Are Better: A Story of Tragedy and Hope
On September 30th, tragedy struck when Officer Greg Alia with the Forest Acres Police Department was killed in the line of duty. In this presentation, his wife, Kassy, shares their story and how his sacrifice inspired a movement for hope and healing that has transformed the landscape of community-police relations across South Carolina and spread a new narrative of togetherness nationwide.
